Introduction to Orthodontic Appliances

Invisible aligners are computer-designed, transparent, removable devices made of safe, elastic, and transparent polymer materials. They work in conjunction with transparent attachments on the outer surface of the teeth to precisely apply force, adjusting the position of misaligned teeth, improving jawbone relationships, and adapting periodontal supporting tissues. They are characterized by their discreet appearance, comfortable wear, and the ability to preview the treatment process. Lingual braces were invented in 1976 by American orthodontist Craven H. Kurz, while clear aligner technology was developed in 1997 by Aligner, founded by Zia Chishti.
The aligners need to be worn for at least 22 hours daily, with a treatment period typically ranging from 6 to 18 months. Indications include crowded teeth, interdental spaces, and anterior crossbite. Lingual braces, where the aligners are bonded to the inner surface of the teeth, have stricter indications.
