Timing of dental implantation
Jul 06, 2026
There are generally four timing options for tooth implantation:
1. Immediate implantation: This refers to placing the implant immediately after tooth extraction.
2. Early implantation after soft tissue healing: This is usually done 4-8 weeks after extraction, after soft tissue healing and before clinically significant bone filling in the alveolar socket.
3. Early implantation after partial bone healing: This is usually done 12-16 weeks after extraction, after clinically significant bone filling in the alveolar socket.
4. Delayed implantation: This is usually done 6 months or longer after extraction, after complete bone healing in the alveolar socket.
