Removable Metal Framework With Denture
Removable Metal Framework With Denture, commonly known as CoCr RPD (Cobalt-Chromium Removable Partial Denture), is a classic removable prosthetic solution for patients with multiple missing teeth. It uses a thin, rigid cast metal framework as the main support base, combined with acrylic resin saddles and artificial teeth to replace missing dentition. It delivers superior strength and stability compared to all-acrylic removable dentures. Our dental lab designs and fabricates metal frameworks digitally, with options for cast CoCr, milled CoCr, customized clasp designs, rest seats and guide planes. We accept STL scan files from 3Shape, Medit Link, Shining 3D and DEXIS IS.
Description
Products Description
This is a type of removable partial denture (RPD).
The core substructure: Cobalt-chromium metal framework (the most widely used). It includes rests, clasps, major connectors, minor connectors.
Resin part: Acrylic saddle, gingival simulation resin and artificial teeth, built on the metal framework to replace missing teeth and restore soft tissue contour.
Patients can take it out for daily cleaning.
Difference from full acrylic denture: Metal frame is thinner, stronger, transfers occlusal force properly to abutment teeth, not just relying on gum support.
Difference from Valplast flexible denture: CoCr framework is rigid, with positive rests for occlusal support; flexible denture has no rigid rest seats.
Key Features
High rigidity & thin design CoCr alloy has outstanding strength. The framework can be made much thinner than full acrylic bases, bringing less bulk and better patient comfort.
Reliable occlusal support via rests Occlusal rests sit firmly on abutment teeth. Masticatory load is distributed to remaining natural teeth instead of overloading alveolar mucosa, slowing ridge resorption.
Excellent stability & retention Custom clasps (Akers, I-bar, T-bar etc.) provide stable retention; major connectors (palatal bar, lingual bar) keep the whole prosthesis from shifting during chewing.
Long service life Metal framework is resistant to deformation and fracture. Only acrylic teeth or resin saddle may need repair or reline over time.
Good oral hygiene access Open framework design leaves more space for cleaning, less coverage of palatal/lingual tissue compared to full acrylic plate.
Customizable clasp & design We follow your prescription: wrought wire clasp, cast clasp, hidden clasp, lingual rest, swing lock attachments on request.
Indications
✅ Multiple missing posterior or anterior teeth, remaining natural abutments available
✅ Kennedy Class I, II, III, IV partial edentulism cases
✅ Patients who need removable restoration but cannot tolerate thick all-acrylic denture plate
✅ Cases requiring long-term functional removable rehabilitation
✅ Bruxism or heavy bite patients, where flexible resin dentures tend to bend or break
✅ Transitional removable restoration before implant placement or fixed bridge treatment
❌ Contraindications
Severe cobalt-chromium metal allergy
No suitable abutment teeth for rest and clasp retention
Very shallow vestibule, insufficient space for framework and clasps
Patient who refuses removable prosthesis
FDA Q&A
Q1: Metal framework denture vs flexible Valplast denture, which one to select?
A: CoCr metal framework RPD: rigid, has occlusal rests, better support, for long-term heavy chewing. Valplast: elastic, no metal clasps, better aesthetics, no occlusal rests, mainly for temporary or short-span cases.
Q2: What clasp styles can you make?
A: Akers clasp, I-bar clasp, T-bar clasp, ring clasp, wrought wire clasp, hidden aesthetic clasp. Mark the clasp type on your work ticket.
Q3: Can the metal framework be relined later?
A: Yes. The acrylic saddle part can be relined or repaired. The CoCr framework itself will not shrink or deform easily.
Q4: What scans and info do we need?
A: Prepared abutment scan, antagonist scan, bite registration, prescription of clasp design, major connector type (lingual bar / palatal bar).
Q5: Is this the same as cast partial denture?
A: Yes. "Cast partial denture" is another common name for CoCr removable metal framework partial denture.
Q6: Can we add attachments on the metal framework?
A: Yes. We can integrate attachments for overdenture or combined fixed-removable cases upon request.
